Problems with Estimate-Based Stock Management
- Running out of oil is usually noticed at the busiest times.
- Urgent orders cost more than planned orders.
- The quantity of bulk oil delivered cannot be verified.
- Oil drawn from the tank cannot be compared with oil invoiced.
Real-Time Level Measurement
A real-time oil tank level monitoring system continuously measures the level with a sensor fitted to each tank and converts it into litres based on the tank dimensions. The current quantity can be monitored on screen without going down to the oil room.
Low-Level Alarm
The system gives a warning when the level drops to a defined minimum. This allows bulk oil to be ordered in a planned manner, before it runs out. The warning level is set according to the supplier’s delivery time and the workshop’s daily consumption.
Delivery and Consumption Control
Level readings taken before and after tanker filling help to verify the quantity delivered. When used together with a computer-controlled oil management system, oil drawn from the tank, oil dispensed from the gun and oil entered on work orders can be monitored in the same table.
The Waste Oil Side
The same monitoring approach applies to the waste oil tank: a low-level warning for fresh oil and a near-overfill warning for waste oil. Monitoring both tanks together brings the entire oil room under control.
