Why Tank Level Monitoring?
In a busy service centre, engine oil stock turns over several times a day. When tank levels are tracked with a dipstick or by eye, measurement errors occur and running out of oil is usually noticed at the busiest time. Real-time monitoring shows how much oil is in the tank at any moment and bases stock management on data rather than estimates.
How Does the System Work?
- A level sensor suited to the tank type and the properties of the oil is fitted in each tank.
- The level reading from the sensor is converted into litres based on the tank dimensions.
- The current quantity is sent to a display or software; consumption is recorded over time.
- When the defined minimum level is reached, the system issues a warning.
What Does It Provide?
- Real-time stock: You can see how much of each oil type is left without going to the oil room.
- Timely ordering: The critical level warning ensures that bulk oil is ordered before it runs out.
- Delivery check: Levels read before and after bulk oil filling help verify the quantity delivered.
- Consumption tracking: Oil drawn from the tank can be compared with oil booked to work orders; unrecorded use becomes visible.
Combined with Other Systems
Tank level monitoring can be installed on its own, but it is most beneficial when combined with a computer-controlled oil management system: oil drawn from the tank and oil dispensed from the gun are tracked in the same table. In new fresh oil dispensing installations, sensor connections are included in the design from the outset.
The sensor type, display and software set-up are determined by the number of tanks and your existing system; we select the right solution for your needs together during the site survey.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can it be added to our existing tanks?
In most cases, yes. The tank type, port connections and layout are assessed during the site survey, and the appropriate sensor and mounting method are selected accordingly.
How accurate is the measurement?
Accuracy depends on the sensor type, tank geometry and calibration. During installation, the tank dimensions are entered into the system and the reading is verified against the actual fill quantity.
Can it also be used on a waste oil tank?
Yes. Level monitoring and overfill warning for the waste oil tank are configured separately; for details, see the waste oil tank overfill prevention system page.
