Waste Oil Tank Overfill Prevention System

The level in the waste oil tank is monitored continuously. When the tank is nearly full, an audible and visual warning is given; when it is completely full, the discharge pumping oil into the tank is stopped. This prevents overflows, floor contamination and clean-up costs from the outset.

Why Does Overfilling Matter?

When oil from waste oil drainers is pumped into the tank via a closed line, it often goes unnoticed when the tank becomes full. Overflowing oil makes the floor slippery, increases the risk of workplace accidents and becomes a serious environmental problem if it reaches the sewer system or the soil. The business is also responsible for storing waste oil safely until it is handed over to a licensed waste oil collector.

How Does the System Work?

  1. A level sensor is fitted in the waste oil tank, and warning and shut-off levels are defined.
  2. When the tank reaches the warning level, an audible and visual warning is given in the oil room and, if required, in the workshop.
  3. When the tank reaches the shut-off level, the discharge line pumping oil into the tank is stopped automatically.
  4. Once the tank has been emptied, the system returns to normal automatically.

What Does It Provide?

  • Protection against overfilling: Discharge into a full tank is prevented.
  • Timely emptying: The warning level allows waste oil collection to be planned in advance.
  • Clean and safe floors: No contamination from overflows on the oil room or workshop floor.
  • Records: If required, level data is sent to software and the tank's fill history can be tracked.

Combined with Other Systems

When overfill prevention is designed together with a waste oil collection and discharge system, the shut-off function is connected directly to the discharge pump. It can also be added to existing waste oil installations; feasibility is assessed during the site survey. For the level of fresh oil tanks, see the real-time oil tank level monitoring system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it be installed on our existing waste oil tank?

Usually, yes. The tank type, a connection point suitable for mounting the sensor and the way the discharge pump is controlled are assessed during the site survey.

Can we also hear the warning in the workshop?

Yes. The warning can be given not only in the oil room but also at a point visible in the workshop.

What happens in a power failure?

This is addressed in the design; the preferred approach is to configure the discharge line so that it remains in a safe state. The details depend on the pump and control set-up used.
