Reducing Oil Loss in the Workshop with a Central Oil Distribution System

Oil is one of the most heavily used consumables in a vehicle maintenance workshop. In workshops working with drums, oil that is lost unnoticed turns into a significant cost item by the end of the year.

Where Is Oil Lost?

  • Spillage: oil spilled during transfer from open containers to the vehicle
  • Residue: oil left at the bottom of containers and thrown away
  • Overfilling: excess oil dispensed when filling without measurement
  • Wrong oil: oil filled by mistake and then drained
  • Unrecorded use: consumption that is not reflected on the invoice

What Does Central Oil Distribution Change?

Oil is conveyed from the tanks in the oil room to the workstations by pneumatic pumps through a closed line. The technician dispenses exactly the amount the vehicle needs using a gun with a digital meter. Oil is conveyed without contamination in a closed line, and since each hose reel is labelled by oil type, use of the wrong oil is reduced.

The Importance of the Metered Dispensing Gun

The meter makes the dispensed quantity visible. But it is just as important that the meter measures correctly: a meter that drifts over time leads either to customers receiving too little oil or to more oil being used than is invoiced. Periodic calibration of the meters is therefore recommended.

One Step Further: Computer-Controlled Dispensing

A computer-controlled oil management system links each dispensing operation to an authorised staff member and a work order. Dispensing stops when the defined quantity is reached, and every transaction is recorded. This makes the difference between stock and consumption visible in the reports.

Buying Oil in Bulk

Central oil distribution makes it possible to buy oil in bulk. The unit cost falls compared with packaged oil, and packaging waste is reduced. Correct planning of the oil room and tanks is the key to this transition; for details, see our fresh oil dispensing systems page.

Where to Start?

First, establish your monthly oil consumption and the oil types you use. Then plan a central line for the most frequently used oils and mobile units for those used less often. During the site survey we review this data together and recommend a suitable configuration. You can contact us via the quote form.

Let’s Plan Your Project Together

Tell us the number of lifts in your workshop, the vehicle types you service and the oil types you use. Our specialist team will carry out a site survey to determine the most suitable system for your needs and prepare an itemised quote.
