The Oil Room: The Heart of Central Oil Distribution
Reliable operation of the central oil distribution line depends on a correctly built oil room. Tank layout, filling points, pump station and leak protection are planned together. Workshops that switch to bulk oil purchasing reduce both packaging waste and the unit cost of oil.
What Do We Install?
- Filling line: Closed line and connection point for transferring oil from a tanker or large container to the tank.
- Tank connections: Pump, filling and vent connections for each tank.
- Pump station: Orderly arrangement of the pumps feeding the central oil distribution line.
- Level monitoring: Level indicators showing the quantity of oil in the tank.
- Leak protection: Bunds or drip trays under the tanks to contain overflows and leaks.
- Labelling: Marking of every tank, line and valve by oil type.
Keeping the Oil Clean
When oil is conveyed in a closed line and through a filter, it is not exposed to dust and moisture. Different oil types do not mix; the oil delivered to the vehicle keeps the quality supplied by its manufacturer.
Features of a Good Oil Room
- A filling point that a tanker or large containers can easily access
- Tanks placed within a spill containment bund, arranged by oil type
- Pumps grouped on a tidy panel, accessible for maintenance
- Ventilation, lighting and fire safety measures
- Separation of fresh oil and waste oil areas
Capacity Planning
Tank volumes are determined according to monthly consumption, the supplier’s delivery interval and the physical dimensions of the oil room. A tank that is too small requires frequent ordering, while one that is too large ties up capital in stock and leaves oil standing for a long time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Plastic tank or steel tank?
The choice depends on the dimensions of the oil room, fire and safety requirements, required capacity and budget. We assess your existing space during the site survey and make a recommendation.
Can our existing tanks be used?
Yes, if they are in suitable condition. We can add new filling, pump and level connections to existing tanks.
What if the oil room is far from the workshop?
As the line length increases, pump capacity and pipe diameter are selected accordingly. On long lines we calculate the pressure loss to ensure sufficient flow at every station.
